Explore the red dunes and look for the big cats on exciting game drives, including the rare desert lions, cheetahs, and leopards. Appreciate the natural beauty of the massive park while observing animals in the night from relaxing waterholes. Also, explore the option to go on an early morning game drive to uncover a local hideout in the park.

Highlights
  • Witness the rich wildlife of the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park
  • Experience your first bush shower
  • Observe several animals on exciting game drives every day
  • Track desert lions, cheetahs, antelopes & bat-eared foxes
  • Day 1: Upington to the Kalahari expand_more
    • Once arrived from Cape Town or Johannesburg, guides will meet you at the Upington airport, and we'll set off for Kalahari.
    • After about a three-hour drive, we’ll reach Twee Rivieren, the Kgalagadi Transfrontier National Park entrance gate, and continue further on unpaved roads to our first overnight unfenced campsite in this massive wildlife park where wild animals roam free.
    • We'll set up camp here and enjoy our first evening relaxing around a crackling campfire. You will get basic comforts and your first “bush shower” of the Safari.
    • The campsite sometimes has a resident lion visit during the night.
  • Day 2: Enjoy a 4x4 game drive expand_more
    • We will start the day by following a 4x4 game drive route through the reserve, passing numerous waterholes along the way, where game viewing can be good.
    • Spend the night at a fenced campsite. The camp offers a small shop, swimming pool, and there’s also a waterhole hide just outside the fence where you can sit and watch the animals that come to drink – night viewing at this drinking hole can be particularly rewarding.
  • Day 3: Campsite in the wilderness expand_more
    • An early morning game drive is offered if you want a chance of seeing the shy animals of the area that prefer the cover of the early morning light.
    • Next, we’ll head off to another wild campsite situated further north within this park. The drive will have good game viewing potential all day.
    • After lunch, we will continue north, passing more waterholes likely to have various animals around them, then finally arrive at a beautiful wild bush camp shaded by Camel Thorn Trees set in the backdrop of majestic red dunes of the Kalahari.
    • Keep an ear out for all the different night sounds including, jackals, big cats, owls, nightjar, and various antelope.
  • Day 4: Tracking the Desert Lion expand_more
    • Rising early, we’ll make our way to a nearby waterhole where we could be rewarded with some exciting game viewing.
    • Stay on the lookout for desert lions, antelopes, African wild cats, bat-eared foxes, and cheetahs, as they are frequently spotted in this area.
    • After relaxing around the camp,  we’ll drive out by late afternoon to observe a nearby waterhole, hopefully, to see something special coming to drink at the end of the hot day.
    • Spend the evening around the campfire, enjoy good bush cuisine, South African wine, and freshly baked bread prepared by the guides over an open fire.
  • Day 5: Wild game viewing expand_more
    • We will head south on a short 60km game drive down to a fenced campsite with a swimming pool, small shop, and a very nice hide where you can view animals coming to drink during the day and night.
    • The rest of the day is spent relaxing here. There is an opportunity to upgrade your tent to a basic chalet tonight if you wish.
    • This camp offers night game drives, something normally disallowed in other areas of the park.
  • Day 6: Find Cheetahs at Rooiputs expand_more
    • There will be an optional early morning game drive, or you can visit the local hide to see what comes to visit.
    • After breakfast, we’ll head for Rooiputs. Keep your eyes peeled for animal sightings, especially cheetahs, at the several animal drinking holes along the way.
    • It’s our last evening around the campfire; remember, there are no fences here, so jackals are likely to visit the camp sometime during the night, and if we are lucky, we may even have a visit from the local pride of lions.
  • Day 7: Final game drive and head to the airport expand_more
    • Enjoy a final sunrise at the Kalahari before taking on our final game drive heading towards the main gate 20kms from our camp.
    • After breakfast, we will set off towards Upington Airport, where you’ll travel by aircraft to Cape Town or Johannesburg International Airport.
