Flores is well known for its culture, language, touristic places and more. Flores island has its own specific culture and language. Every territory here is divided into five main languages and cultural groups. From west to east, these are the Manggaraian (main town Ruteng), the Ngada (Bajawa), the closely related Ende and Lio people (Ende), the Sikkimese (Maumere )and the Lemaholot (Larantuka). In remote areas, some older people don't speak a word of Bahasa and their parents grew up in purely animist societies

The Flores people are mostly Catholic but in rural areas, Christianity is not very common. Animist rituals are still used for births, marriage and deaths and to mark the important point in the agricultural calendar. When rice is planted or the harvest season starts, they make offerings to the ancestors by putting chicken, buffalo, or pig for sacrifice. Muslims congregate in fishing villages and coastal towns such us Labuan Bajo and Ende (where they make up half the population).
