Abu Nuhas is of the most famous wreck diving destinations in Northern red sea . It is common to see dolphins and eagle rays near the reef or near the wrecks itself . It is famous for 4 main wreck's which I'm going to give a short brief on.

 

 

 

I will start with:

The Ghiannis D Wreck 


“Twin hold general cargo vessel”
Launched - Japan 1969 as the Shoyo Maru
Dimensions - 99.5m x 16m
1975 - Sold and named Marcos
1980 - Sold to Durmac Shipping in Greece and named Ghiannis D ..
Route was - Croatia to Jeddah
Cargo - Wood
Sank - Sha’ab Abu Nuhâs April 1983
(steering error or insurance claim?)
Fatalities - None


The Carnatic , a very unique wreck :


“Iron framed planked passenger steamer”
Launched - London 1862
Dimensions - 90m x 11.6m
Max speed - 11 knots, 2442HP
Cargo - £40 000 in gold coins, Copper sheeting, Port, Cotton and Royal mail. 176 crew & 34 passengers.
Sank - Sha’ ab Abu Nu Has 1869.
Fatalities - 5 passengers & 26 crew lost

1954, Orenstein, Koppel & Luebekker, Lubeck, Germany - “Dora Oldendorf”
98m long, 14.8m wide
2700 BHP
Gross tonnage: 3720
9 cylinder diesel engine
4 hold general cargo vessel
1970 “Anna B”
1979 “Chrisoula K”, Clarion Marine Co, Piraeus
in December 1981
was sailing from Italy to Jeddah with cargo of floor tiles
then Captain Kanellis
Hit Abu Nuhâs reef , after the Captain left the helm !
21 crew - no fatalities
Is this the Chrisoula K? Marcus? No agreement!!
