Sri lanka is the largest island in the South Asia. A mere 435 km north-south from point Pedro to Dondra head and 225 km across at its widest, it contains within compact 65610 sq km.
Sri Lanka is an island with unparalleled diversity of scenic sights,colourful ceremonies,culture and crafts, monolithic ruins, rich farmland to arid scrud jungle, fauna and flora, wonderful wilderness and wildlife sanctuaries and over 1125 km of pristine palm-fringed shoreline where any one can swim, surf, snorkel, sail or simply soak up the sun....this all within a short time like six hours time drive at most one from another. That is why we call this country the "Wonder of Asia".
Average temperture is like 27 deg C in Colombo and its suburbs, raising to as much as 38 deg C in the semi - arid northwest and cooling off to 16 deg C at higher elevation of the hill country.
Present population is 20 million, Sinhala and Tamil are the official languages in Sri Lanka, English is widely spoken and understood.
Sri Lanka is primarily an agricutural country, tea, rubber and coconut being the main important export. Sri Lanka has also long been a major exporter of precious and semi-precious gem stones.
Sri Lankan people are very hospitable and I wish all our tourist guides should be the embessadors of Sri Lanka to the world.
