Nepal has over 6000 rivers, so it's no wonder it's one of the best places in the world to raft and kayak! Whether you are a beginner, or a seasoned pro, Nepal will most definitely have a trip suitable for you. Here's our top river trips in Nepal...

1-2 Day Trips

If you a short of time then don't worry, there are some great short river trips just a few hours drive from Kathmandu or Pokhar.

  • The Trisuli - The best. most popular all year round river. Just three hours from Kathmandu , this is one of the only rivers open every day of the year (it is most fun during the monsoon months when the river becomes swollen and fast!). Great for beginner rafters and kayakers. You can do one day or stay over night for a second day adventure too! Great to cut up the long bus journeys from Kathmandu to Pokhara or Chitwan.

  • The Lower Seti - This is a two day float trip perfect for young families, or those more interested in the scenery than rapids. You'll be able to spot plenty of birdlife and monkeys on this scenic tour

  • The Bhote Kosi - To the north of Kathmandu, this is a two day adrenaline fuelled trip! Not for the faint hearted. Non stop Grade IV rapids in a raging torrent of Himalayan water. Great for those after some action

The Bhote Kosi

Longer Expedition Trips
If you really want to get to grips with whitewater rafting then we suggest getting yourself on a longer trip.
Sun Kosi - 8-9 days of uninterrupted river. Rated one of the top ten river journeys in the world by National Geographic. This river is a bit more gentle than the other two expedition trips, but is perfect for those wanting the thrill of whitewater rafting, but also to relax, maybe learn to kayak and enjoy the scenery and local villages as well. This trip takes you from the foothills of the Himalaya near the

  • Tibet border right the way down to the flat plains near the Indian border...270km in the ' River of Gold '.

  • Karnali - 10 days. This river is a bit more hardcore than the Sun Kosi, you'll want to be a Grade III kayaker to join this one (beginner rafters are still fine). It starts with 4 intense days of non-stop white water rapids, before flattening out a bit as we roll into BardiaNational Park where you can stay on for a safari if you wish.

Karnali River

  • Tamur - 11 days. The ultimate combination trip. Trekking followed by rafting or kayaking. This river is intense. There are 120 rapids in 131km of water. A great adventure but very committing.

Which ever river you choose, no doubt you will have an incredible time rafting and kayaking in Nepal, an adventure not to be missed.
