When Should I Book My Trip to Bhutan?
Planning ahead is key when traveling to Bhutan, especially given the country’s unique tourism structure. With only two airlines operating international flights (Druk Air and Bhutan Airlines) and a limited number of hotels, early booking is essential to ensure a smooth and stress-free travel experience.
We strongly recommend booking your trip at least 12 weeks in advance during the peak seasons, and up to 8 months in advance during the low season. This helps secure not only your flights and accommodations but also access to experienced guides and quality transportation.
The most popular times to visit Bhutan are Autumn (September–November) and Spring (March–May). These seasons coincide with Bhutan’s vibrant religious festivals (Tsechus) and offer ideal weather conditions—clear skies, pleasant temperatures, and blooming landscapes. However, these periods also attract the highest number of tourists, which means hotels and flights get booked quickly, sometimes months in advance.
If you're planning to attend a specific festival or visit during a high-demand period, it's advisable to finalize your travel arrangements as early as possible. During the quieter months—typically the summer monsoon season and colder winter months—there is more flexibility, but availability can still be limited, especially for boutique and heritage hotels.
While we are always happy to assist with last-minute bookings, and will make every effort to accommodate them, it’s important to understand that options may be more restricted. Popular hotels may be fully booked, and flight seats may be limited or unavailable.
To avoid disappointment and to ensure you experience Bhutan at its best, we encourage you to plan and book your trip well in advance. A little preparation goes a long way in making your journey to the Land of the Thunder Dragon seamless and memorable.
