Selam new!

This is is our greeting here in Ethiopia. It means "Is there peace for you?“ or, how you would say "How are you?“ I would like to introduce myself. My name is Anteneh Sileshi Kebede, but it is okay if you call me Anteneh. Well, I have to admit that actually, this is not a special offer, as people in Ethiopia only call each other by their first names. I am from Gondar, which is the first capital city of the former Ethiopian Emperors (a long time ago) but currently, I live in Addis Ababa.

For all coffee drinkers, Ethiopia is the motherland of coffee. Coffee spread from Ethiopia to the world, and most people say that, still, you will find the best coffee here.

In Ethiopia, you can still see amazing nature and wildlife, with numerous plants and animals you can only find here. It is a land, which is characterised by mountains, as about half of its area is located higher than 1,200 m (with some mountains over 4,000 m), but you will also find broad savannas and very low regions, like the Danakil Depression in the North, being with -115 m one of the lowest and also hottest places in the world.

If you are interested in history and religion then Ethiopia is old, old beyond what one can imagine. As Abyssinia, its culture and traditions reach back over 3,000 years. But already far earlier (about 3,2 million years) humans were living in this land, like Lucy (or "Dinknesh“, how we call here, which means "you are wonderful“). Her remains and some of our other ancestors can nowadays be seen in the National Museum in Addis Ababa.

A lot of people come to Ethiopia because of the exceptional way ancient historical and religious traditions have been preserved. As, for example, the ceremonies of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church (founded in the 4th century) open a window to the world of Early Christianity and these are only some of the numerous reasons to come and visit this country of origins full of scenic beauty and hospitality.
