The name Uluguru mountains come from the Luguru tribe, which has been inhabiting the mountains for several hundred years. Females are the one who owns the land and they are considered powerful in the village.

The Uluguru Mountains rise southeast of Morogoro Town and about 2 km from the spot lies 200 km inland from the Indian Ocean. Lupanga peak, Bondwa peak and Kinole peak are the popular peaks of this Mountain. Lupanga peak is the highest but the tourists come more often to Bondwa peak. You can get a chance to see the historical sites like 'Old German building', which was built in 1910. It was a military base once. See the first Church built here in 1914, God's footprint and the best view of Morogoro town.
