Tunisia is a North African country with Mediterranean sensibilities. From the sun-drenched beaches of the north to the unforgiving desert of the south, and with desolate, lunar landscapes in between, there is nowhere quite like Tunisia. With multifaceted, modern cities speckled with reminders of an ancient past, villages steeped in mysticism, medieval towns of tangled lane ways and archaeological ruins to rival Rome, travelling through Tunisia is like slowly unravelling a tapestry from another time.
Day 1-2, Arrive in Tunis (2 Nights)
Upon arrival into Tunis International Airport, you will be met by 4x4's local representative and transferred to your hotel at the heart of the capital. On day 2, after breakfast, you will visit the ancient Medina of Tunis with it's bustling markets and the Bardo Museum which is famous for it's collection of Roman mosaics. In the afternoon, you will be visiting Carthage to see it's Roman villas and ancient baths. You will also have time to stroll through the charming Moorish village of Sidi Bou Sai. Lunch and Dinner is included.
Day-3, Tunis to Tozeur
After breakfast, you will depart for Kairouan where you will visit the Grand Mosque and Berber Mausoleum. After lunch, you will travel to Tozeur to see it's 250-acre palm grove that produces some of the finest dates in Tunisia. You will also visit the Medina of Tozeur and the open air museum, Eden Palm where you will have the opportunity to learn about the production of dates, meet with artisans and also sample some of the local date delicacies. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included.
Day-4, Tozeur to Douz oasis.
Enjoy a tour of the town followed by lunch. Stops will be made at the Tamerza Canyon waterfall as well as at the mountainous oases of Chebika and Mides. In the afternoon, cross the Chott El Jerid salt desert towards Douz, which is also known as the "Gateway to the Sahara". An optional highlight is a camel ride at sunset (for your own account). Lunch and Dinner included.
Day-5, Douz - Ksar Ghilane
After breakfast, visit the Ksar Ghilène villages, a true Saharan oasis, where "Yadis Ksar Ghilane" is an exclusive Berber-style campsite that allows you to enjoy the magical atmosphere of the desert without sacrificing luxury. After lunch, you will depart for Matmata, the site of several scenes from the "Star Wars" film. See the fascinating underground dwellings of the Berber Troglodytes. Visit a typical local home and meet a Berber family. Then, continue on towards Djerba (for your own account). Dinner is included.
Day-6
Explore Djerba and visit Houmt Suq, with it's souks and squares followed by a brief stop at the handicraft village. Overnight stay will be here. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner is included.
Day-7
Depart from Tunis city. Today, you will be transferred to the Djerba airport in time for your onward departure flight.
