Around a million people a year experience it. This is amazing, unbelievable engineering.

It’s also the most expensive attraction in Switzerland. A return ticket costs around CHF 200. But this train is by far the cheapest way to get there!

Let’s compare two alternatives without the train:

1) Grimsel Hospiz → Finsteraarhorn Hut → Konkordiahütte over Grünhornlücke → Jungfraujoch

Easy but very long glacier tour: ~30 km, ~14 hours total

Hut nights cost over CHF 200

Multiple days required

2) Stechelberg → Silberhorn Hut → Jungfraujoch via Silberhorn

Very difficult tour

Mountain guide required, far more expensive than CHF 200

Clearly, the train is not just iconic but practical and cost-effective for most travelers.
