Nyakasura caves are located in the western part of fort portal in a hilly area that has crater lakes. Breasts of Nyinamwiru are the live stalactites formation, shaped like a pair of breast. The main cave is supported by several pillars formed where the stalactites and stalagmites have met in the middle. Not only the caves are attractive to tourists but also there are other attractions that a tourist can enjoy before leaving the caves for example a powerful waterfall that lies next to the main cave which is known as Nyakasura falls, a forest which is a habitat to many primates, reptiles and various bird species. In addition to this, there are different activities carried out in and around the caves.
According to the traditional belief, Nyinamwiru was the daughter of a local king Bukuku. She was so beautiful in that no man could leave her alone. Her father cut off her breasts in the hope it would reduce her charms but even this wasn’t enough to reduce his lovely daughter’s many admirers. Bukuku eventually hid his daughter away in the caves. Nyinamwiru was impregnated by Isaza the Batembuzi king and gave birth to Ndahura the founder of the Bachwezi dynasty.
