The associates of UPTE just came back from a trip in Montenegro and Dubrovnik that lasted from 21st to 26th September. It was an experimental trip in a complex region due to various political, historical and religious reasons and not yet a mass tourism destination. ”It was a beautiful trip” president Angela Fontana recounts to FAX,“ thanks to two excellent guides – Ivana and Stefan and the tireless Maria Luisa from the Netti agency that organized the tour. The driver Donato Casamassima was patient skilful and well informed. With the young Stefan, we have also learned about various aspects of ordinary life in Montenegro. The tour destinations were Dubrovnik called Ragusa, protected by San Biagio, Kotor protected by Triphon, Perast, a Venetian dominion with linguistic traces still present in its architecture, Budva, Podgorica e Virpazar." “This trip, like every other, expands our knowledge and dismantles prejudices”, president Fontana continues. “The king of Montenegro, father-in-law of Emanuele III, was a wise and very cultured man. Like his daughter Elena who gave five healthy and beautiful children to the king, he spoke many languages. Thus, Umberto II who visited Putignano was half Montenegrin. The visit to the castle of Cetinje in the old capital of Montenegro was eye-opening: it was elegant, but not luxurious. The guide spoke Italian perfectly. The cuisine was not so exciting, while the guide was pretty ’creative and original’. The excursion to Skadar Lake was wonderful. We have seen plenty of water lilies and ate water caltrops. We saw cormorants, pelicans, snipes and bustards. 262 bird species! The custom controls were very strict. Good roads. The group also experienced a downpour at Perast."
