The remote national park lies in the far northeast of Uganda, isolated from the rest of the country by the sparsely populated, arid badlands of Karamoja rejoin. It is seldom visited by tourists due to expense and difficult of getting there. Five primate species have been recorded in Kidepo National park including the localised Patas monkeys. There are 12 Antelope species in this park of which the greater kudu, lesser kudu, Guenther’s dik – dik and mountain reedbuck occur nowhere else in Uganda. Other Antelopes found in the park may include; Eland, Bush back, Oribi, Jackson’s hartebeest and many more. Kidepo is also a habitat to population of Elephants, Burchell’s Zebra, Warthog and Buffalo. There are 56 species of birds in total of which the most commonly observed are the dark chanting goshawk, pygmy falcon, tawny eagle, secretary birds, bataleur and other types of vultures. You can never miss to see other birds like the ostrich, kori bustard, little green and red- throated bee – eaters, carmine to mention but a few.

The park is surrounded by mountains but its area is dominated by the broad valleys of the Kidepo River to the North and the Narus River to the south. The park experiences only one wet season throughout the year and during the long hot dry season, animals migrate to the south from the semi arid Kidepo Valley to find water in swamps and remnant pools along the seasonal channel of the Narus.
