The Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage is located near Nairobi National Park. This orphanage is mainly for Elephant Calves and Rhinos from all over Kenya. I It was founded and is still managed by Angela Daphne, the daughter of Daphne Sheldrick.

David Sheldrick was at this centre when the Ivory poaching wars  shook the Tsavo National Park. Today, over the years of proper care and information,  Sheldrick orphanage is now a focal point for Elephant Conservation in this part of Kenya.

Elephant calves orphaned by poaching are brought here from all over the country. They receive extremely specialized treatment here, and literally receive personal care 24 hours a day from highly dedicated staff who become like mothers to the calves. Eventuall,  the calves are moved to Tsavo National Park, wherein they are carefully reintroduced into the  wild herds.

This centre is open to the public every day fro,m 11 am till 12 pm.  During this time, the calves are usually being exercised and bathed . So,  visitors are free to watch.

Overall, this is a very good centre for general information on Elephants and all about their care and conservation.
