Nepal was a nation of traders and now considers trekking trails evolved from trade routes. Generations of porters have carried Indian goods to remote hill village in Nepal and Tibet. The trils are also used by people moving between the colder Himalayan regions and the warmer climates of the Terai to the South. People also travel extensively for wedding, funerals, festivals, pigrimes, school and government or military business.

Nepal was closed to the outside world, the only for foreigners who visited the hills of country were illegal visitors such as Japanese explorer Ekai Kawaguchi and Sacred map maker's called pundits, who were sent into Nepal by the survey of India.

The first trekker in Nepal was Tilman, who was wrangled permission from the Maharaja in 1949, to make several treks, including around the Kali Gandaki, Helambu and Everest. Another early visitor was Maurice Herzog who led a French expedition to Annapurna in 1950.The first trek was led by Tilman in the Kaligandaki.

When, Admand Hillary and Tenging Norge Sherpa successfully ascended on the top of Mt. Everest in 1953, after that Nepal's tourism and trekking popular and rapidly picked up. Kirk Patrick, is well known name in Nepal's tourism, because of his book, many people got a chance to know about Nepal and here mountains, people, religions, flora and fauna. Similarly, Thomas cook has contributed to upgrade the tours and travels in Nepal as well.
