Today, 25.02.2016, in Zadar celebrates the day of St. Donat patron of the city of Zadar and the association guides Zadar County. Donat (Latin: Donatus - "God-given") was born in the eighteenth. century in a respectable Zadar family. Donat lived at the time of the emperors Charlemagne in the West and in the East Nicefor. According to chronicle it is known that Bishop Donatus and Venetian doge Beat were at the court of the Byzantine emperor Nicephorus I in Istanbul (then Constantinople) and how the encounter had happened at the year 804 , in the name of Charlemagne Donat negotiated the demarcation between the Byzantine themes and princely Croatian territory in Dalmatia.  Bishop Donat has so much contributed to Zadar and other Dalmatian towns (Kotor, Dubrovnik, Split, Trogir, Rab, Krk and Osor) exercise considerable autonomy and also to be the guardians of waterways and trade. Their loyalty to Byzantium with interruptions lasted until the 12th century. Thanks to these meetings with the rulers of the West and East 812th was in Aachen concluded peace between Frank and Byzantine Empire, where the Franks received Istria and Croatia, and the Dalmatian cities of Byzantium and Venice.

Bishop Donat in Istanbul received the gift of the relics of St. Anastasia (Anastasia), conveyed the Saint's relics in Zadar that are stored in the former Cathedral of St. Peter.Later, the cathedral was dedicated to St. Anastasia.  It was mentioned that  Donat in Byzantium got the gift and the relics of St. Martyr Chrysogona (Grisogono). At the same time, according to legend, brought the relics of a saint Thessalonica, sisters who were killed in Diocletian's persecutions - Irene, Agape and Kijone.

Bishop Donat is attributed to the construction of the famous Zadar church - rotunda Sv. Trinity, built in the early 9th century, that of the 15th century bears his name. St. Donatus died around the year 811 and was buried in a magnificent Holy Trinity Church (today's church of St. Donatus). His remains were in 1622 during the Zadar archbishop Stelle placed under the main altar of the church. The church is desacralized and separated from the episcopal assembly to the Austrian government in 1798, after the invasion of the French in Zadar in 1809 the remains of St. Donatus were transferred to the Cathedral of St. Anastasia where they now stand.
