South Africa is at the forefront of the fight against COVID in Africa. We entered immediately into strict lockdown in March 2020, and the infection rate has dropped sufficiently low now in November 2020. Most of the lockdown restrictions has been removed. We expect it to drop lower during our warmer months until the cooler season starts in May 2021. Because of our climate and young population, we are more protected against the disease than older and colder countries. Our government has been praised by the WHO for its handling of the pandemic so far.

We are the only country in Africa with a world-class medical system and in the unfortunate event of a visitor contracting COVID or indeed any sickness or injury you can be transported quickly from anywhere in the country to competent world-class medical care. Should you be asymptomatic or symptomatic and ill and need quarantine/isolation, we have delightful options where this can be done.

Please ascertain that your travel and medical insurance covers you for any eventuality, including COVID.

However, generally speaking, because safari and visiting many parts of our country means lots of open-air activity in low infection and low population areas. And, because of testing procedures by our guides and at the hotels and lodges, and very widespread compliance by the population with all social distancing mask-wearing and sanitizing, you will be as safe here to enjoy a wonderful experience.
