Should I visit Paris while in London?

This is a question I often get from my private hire clients, and it is no surprise. After making such a long journey across the pond, spending loads of money, and booking every sort of transportation imaginable, it is often the thought to “make the most of the time abroad” and hop over to see Paris.

Tower Bridge London

The answer is always different. How much time do you have? How much time do you want to spend in each? What do you want to see and what would you be happy to miss? They are two completely different cities, with agendas that can easily keep you there for a month.

My first suggestion is to make a “hit list” of everything you want to see in London. Then do the same for Paris. Then compare the two. Can you do all of your “must see” items in the time you have booked? Remember, while travelling to Paris from London is only 2 hours on the Eurostar, you still need to consider an hour on each end for security and hotel check in. So devoting half a day travel for each way is advisable.

Big Ben London

Still have time in your agenda? If you are like many, you’ll want to do the “big stuff” like see the Eiffel Tower. If you want to go up, you MUST book in advance to avoid disappointment. If you are not fussed about it, and you think you can be satisfied with a day of hop on, hop off bus touring, then stick with that plan. Grab a croissant and you are done! The most important thing is to manage your expectations for each city experience.
