Within the list of the must-see attractions in Guangzhou, Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street will be an integral part with its wonders in local food, Xiguan culture and Lingnan culture as well as European architecture highlights.
Most foreign travelers may prefer visiting the street at daytime. However, it will turn into an other romantic side at night. As a local guide, I am willing to suggest a visit to it at night if time permits and you are interested for the same.
Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street is actually constituted by Baohua Road, Shangjiu Road, Xiajiu Road and Dishipu Road, with the integration of local food and commercial sections. Along the Baohua Road, which is very accessible by the subway (Exit D, Changshou Road, Line 1), you will see a lot of food and snack stores at every side of the road.
Entering the major commercial roads, a lot of arcade store constructions will be in front of you, bringing you a great surprise of an integrated culture of Chinese and European architecture styles.
Most of the big shopping malls, stores and restaurants here have famous brand names, and they usually stay open until 10 pm. If it happens to be within the Chinese National Day, New Year Day holiday or other important festivals, the whole street will be decorated with distinctive Chinese lanterns, adding a romantic color.
It is highly recommended to check out the Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Streets by night. No matter, if you are visiting here just for a single stop during your day time city tour or for a shopping experience, this street will not let you down.
