When it comes to Milan, the city needs no introduction. The second most populous Italian city has made a mark for itself in the global map, and is deemed an Alpha Global City for its economic contribution and standing in different sectors and industries.

If you still need a reason to visit this beautiful city, allow me to introduce you to some of its most renowned places and attractions.

'Rondanini Pieta': Let's start with an original statue created by Michelangelo in 1564, the 'Rondanini Pieta' in the Sforza castle. The marble wonder, standing 77 inches in height, is said to be one of the final works of the sculptor before his death. It was later purchased by the city from Conte Sanseverino  for 125 million Lire in 1952.

Sforza Castle: The castle was built by Francesco Sforza, Duke of Milan during the 15th century and houses the most important museums and art collections of the city.  There are a total of 12 museums and various other art displays in the castle, so you can easily spend a whole day wandering around the halls.

Simplon Gate: The Sempione Square of Milan houses the Simplon Gate (Porta Sempione) with its Arch of Peace.  Built in the 19th Century, it stands proudly near the Piazza.  Take a lovely walk from the castle down to the gate, past a cafe where elderly men spend the afternoon playing cards with friends and children play nearby whilst their mothers are enjoying coffee.

Santa Maria delle Grazie: Inside the Santa Maria delle Grazie, you can find the original 'Last Supper', painted by Leonardo da Vinci between 1495 and 1498, on the end wall of the dining hall.

Milan Cathedral: Milan’s skyline is dominated by its Gothic Cathedral, which took almost 6 centuries to build, starting in 1386 and finally completed in 1965.  It is the 3rd largest church in the world and the largest in Italy.

Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II: As a shopping mecca, Milan also offers Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, the oldest shopping mall in the world. Built between 1865 and 1877, the building is named after the first king of Italy.

While these are just some of the main sites to visit, Milan offers many other attractions as well as things to do.

So, what are you waiting for? Come, visit the historic metropolis, its historic attractions, and lose yourself in its beautiful culture!
