The Shrine of PhorThan Kuat was in the compound of Wat Chaiyamagalaram in Pulau Tikus area.

It was built in reverence to the first monk of Wat Chaiyamangalaram, who was responsible for building the temple on a land of 5 acres donated by Queen Victoria as a good gesture to the Kingdom of Siam (Thailand) .

Phor Than Kuat better known as "The Powerful Monk" came from Thailand, he was a Theravada Buddhist monk and was fond of local cuisine of "Laksa". After his death, devotees continue to present Laksa as the main offering to his shrine.

The uniqueness of Wat Chaiyamangalaram, is that it had been graced by His Majesty King Bhumiphol and Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the current King and Queen of Thailand- the 9th King of The Chakri Dynasty.

Thai festivities are annually held here, such as Songkran & Loy Krathong.
