Most interesting activities in this island are diving, snorkelling, and camping. Pasumpahan IslandasPulau Pasumpahan in Bahasa Indonesia is a very small island that covers the area around 5ha. It contains Mangrove forest, Palm trees, White sands, and the sea creatures like colourful fishes, sea turtles, and coral reefs ecosystem.
Some of the tourists who visit this island also love to swim around the island, start from the east side to the north side of the island and then back to where they start. It takes normally around 2 hours, yes the ocean waves are a bit challening here of course if you imagine swimming on the ocean that long. However, with the quiet and diverse marine life, people sometime ignore the exhausion and just enjoy all the feeling and admire the nature. The waves are rather strong and sometimes come from the opposite side, but with a good snorkelling instruments, good swimming suit and a waterproof camera, we can even produce the extra energy to finish that 2 km swimming.
Pasumpahan Island is in the administrative area of Bungus, Teluk Kabung district, Padang city, West Sumatra, located not so far from Sikuai Island around 200 m and 45 km from Padang city. In addition to various types of coral reef fish / ornamental fish like red lion fish (Pterois volitans), teripang/sotong (Sepia sp) dominated by Chaetodon trifascialis which can be found near Padang underwater are also very interesting to be enjoyed by tourists
Some of the Minang Kabau tribe believe the name of this Pasumpahan Island inspired from the Malin Kundang folk tale; it is a story about a poor child who lives near the beach with his mother. One day he was sailing like usual but never came back. Later he became a wealthy merchant and landed his ship on the beach, his mother came to him and he denied to meet that old, poor and dirty woman. After some time his begging mother cursed Malin Kundangthat he would turn into a stone if he didn't apologize. Malin Kundang just laughed and went back to sail. In the quiet sea, suddenly a thunderstorm came, his huge ship was wrecked but it was too late to apologize. He was thrown by the wave out of his ship, fell on a small island, and suddenly turned into stone.
Back to the island, which attract many local tourists and foreigners with its quiet ocean surroundings, white sands and coral reefs ecosystem. Some people also love camping in the Island, yes it is necessary during the night, as the area does not have any homestay like Pagang Island or Pamutusan Island. Since the water around is only good for washing, so make sure to bring enough mineral water to if you plan to stay in the island.
