The traditional Myanmar art forms-known in Myanmar language as Pan-She-Myo, or the 10 flowers- developed in Bagan between the 11th and 13th centuries, but it is modern Mandalay where they are today maintained and perpetuated.

Bronze Casting

About 10 large and 100 small bronze casting workshops can be found in an area of Tampawaddy known as Kyae Thon Yat. Its exponents need to be patient and methodical, and the first step is to create a mould using a clay replica of the desired image. A plaster replica is then made, and this is covered in clay. Finally, the image is cast in bronze and touched up for the desired finish. Mostly, they cast Buddha images and other popular items include dragons and Hindus gods- basically, whatever the customers want.
