The city of Luxor is one of the most  important ancient Egyptian cities because it was the capital where the most important kings lived, such as Tutankhamun, Ramses and others. The old name of the city was "Thebes" but most of the old city's features disappeared because of the flood of the River Nile that lasted for thousands of years.

In ancient times, the word "Luxor" was an Arabic word that was mainly used by the Arabs when they entered Egypt. It meant "palaces" at that time, as  the city consisted of large temples that resembled palace type structures.

Many ancient things have been found there last years and the Egyptologists are still busy with  excavations and researches everywhere in Luxor, as more and more sites are discovered.

Now, some of the most famous temples and museums for sightseeing at Luxor are :

  • Karnak temple.

  • Luxor temple.

  • Habu temple.

  • Rameseum temple.

  • Seti temple.

  • Hatjepsut temple.
