Jinuo Minority

Jinuo Minority, the 56th last nationality of China, with population of 20 thousand, mainly lives in Jinuo Mountain area of Jinghong. They do not have their own language. Jinuo people are also named Youle in the early times. In 1950, Jinuo people were in the transitional stage of primitive society. They relied mainly on agriculture and their cultivation was known as the slash and burn method. In the past Jinuo people suffered from a catastrophic flood. All the people were washed away except a girl and her uncle who survived by hiding in a big drum. The girl and her uncle produced children that mean nowadays Jinuo people. Nowadays Jiunuo people regard the girl and her uncle as ancestors. Jinuo people believe in Animism.
