Bawean is a small, secluded island, located roughly about 120 kilometers north of Gresik, East Java, Indonesia. This 99 greenish hilly Island features a ring road spanning approximately 50-60 km that circles the coastline, connecting the island’s various, scenic and green paddy fields and beautiful landscapes.

Bawean island covers around 192 km2 and inhabited by 5,000 islanders. It is divided into two main administrative districts, Sangkapura with 17 villages and Tambak with 13 villages, totaling 30 villages. Each district has some nature spots and untouched with mass touristy destination.

Unlike more popular Indonesian islands, Bawean remains off the beaten path, offers pristine beaches with the crystalline waters, Noko Gili and Noko Selayar atolls as well as the scenic caldera Kastoba Lake with lush forest. Take deep breath at the only highest waterfall, Laccar.

You can also find the true magic of Bawean lies in places like Karst Tanjung Ga'ang for golden hour or the underwater meadows of Pulau Cina.

Bawean Island is also a home of endangered species of the smallest deer in world, Axis Kuhlii, one of SEA Games Maskot in 2018. Feed small group of Bawean deer in their Sanctuary.

As In the former decades, many men went to find work overseas like Malaysia, Singapore.. It is a tradition here that men should work away from the island to earn better so that Bawean is also known as the ‘island of women’. 77% of the population is female (1970 to 1990) but nowadays Baweanese are better than many out there thought about.

Bawean people come from acculturated of settlers from many clans across the region, especially Java and Borneo. Baweanese are 100 % moslems, feel Islamic cultural vibes and traditional generated local heritage

What about Bawean's nature destination? You can find many great places as mentioned above.

One of the most special destinations include the white-sand sandbars of Noko Selayar and Noko Gili are small white-sand islands close to Bawean, surrounded by crystal-clear shallow blue water, perfect recommendation for tropical vibes for snorkeling and taking photography as well as healthy coral reefs surrounding the smaller offshore islands. I think Noko Gili and Noko Selayar Bawean Bawean are Maldives-like scenery.

The next is Tanjung Gaang cape or Karst Tanjung Gaang. It has a small beach surrounded by reef. It is best visited in the afternoon about 15.00 when the tide comes. The most beautiful view can be seen by walking through the reef and seeing the greenish blue shallow sea nearby the reef down there. Must be careful to walk about the reef carefully. Some has unique holes directly to the sea.

The reef indicates that this reef was one upon a time located in the bottom of shallow sea before the sea level lower like today. I can only imagine that the whole island must not be an island in the very past when the ice in the world melted and rise of the sea level. And Lake Kastoba was probably an active volcano in the middle of the sea.

The next nature spot is Kastoba lake. It is a hidden volcanic treasure tucked away in the center of Bawean Island. Perched atop a hill about 400 meters above sea level, this stunning freshwater lake fills a volcanic caldera created millions of years ago by the ancient mount explosion. The caldera is surrounded by lush tropical rainforest and giant trees that have stood strongly.

Snorkeling at Pulau Cena, a small island in the northern west of Bawean, offers a "real-life aquarium" experience with vibrant, healthy coral reefs and diverse marine life. Pulau Cena is also a popular spots include the sunset and mangrove point. If you love marine life, you will find that the underwater world in Pulau Cena Bawean is a true paradise. The stunning sea creatures and the marine diversity will leave you amazed

Laccar waterfall is the highest and most iconic waterfall on Bawean Island, Gresik. Standing at approximately 25 meters tall, it is celebrated for its unique geological features and serene tropical setting. The nature atmosphere around gives coolness with a gentle breeze blowing wet, with rocks piled which is usually used as a stopover for many people and ready to play a natural shower or swim in cool pool. Laccar waterfall will always be a potential natural destination in Bawean.
