Inle Lake is a natural lime solution lake and there are many aquatic plants are growing on the lake for many years ago by nature. They are floating on the lake and moving one place to another. Some are big in size and vegetables can be grown on them. But, the Intha people are trying to collect the compost and mud from the lake bottom and put them on the floating grass and start growing tomatoes. But, we can not grow any roots plants such as ginger, carrot, onion, etc.

We are going two times a year for tomato plants in the garden. It takes one month for preparing for the garden to grow again, and then we can start to transplant the nursery plants in the garden. Two months later, it starts flowers and finally, we get green tomatoes. Inle tomato is very juicy and less seedy. We make salad and curry. We grow 80% of tomato for our country on this lake. 25% of the lake area is totally covered by the floating garden now.

The local authority is stopping to the extension of the garden on the lake. But, a new garden can be made, when the old garden is not strong anymore.
