Indonesia has 38 provinces; the capital is Jakarta. Indonesia is a presidential republic, and shares land borders with Papua New Guinea and Malaysia. Despite its large population and densely populated regions, Indonesia has vast areas of wilderness that support one of the world's highest levels of biodiversity. It consists of over 17,000 islands, including Sumatra, Java, Sulawesi, and parts of Borneo, Kalimantan, and Papua. The population is over 279 million people, with 734 local languages and more than 350 ethnic groups. The Muslim religion constitutes about 84%, followed by Christianity, Hinduism, and Buddhism. Java, as the most populous island, is home to more than half of the country's population. Indonesia is a rich country in terms of mountains, with 130 active volcanoes, providing excellent opportunities for exploring nature. The country is also rich in culture due to its diverse ethnicities, with a history spanning over a million years, including agriculture, maritime activities, and colonialism.

Jakarta, as the capital and a major city in Java, boasts a plethora of flora and fauna. It is a place to witness the hustle and bustle of the busiest city, where the stories of colonial history and ethnic tribes contribute to fulfilling the tourism experience. Outside Jakarta, exploration of nature, such as mountains and volcanoes, can be undertaken within an hour.

People often travel to Jakarta to experience the capital's importance before being drawn to activities outside the city, such as diving and hiking.

Yogyakarta and Bali are classical destinations that most people must visit in Indonesia, in addition to Jakarta.
