My 102nd Hike to Tiger’s Nest: Still as Magical as the First.
There are places that never lose their magic, no matter how many times you visit them. For me, Paro Taktsang, better known as Tiger’s Nest Monastery, is one of those places.
This week, I completed my 102nd hike to Tiger’s Nest. People often ask me, “Don’t you get tired of hiking the same trail?” My answer is always the same: Never.
Every hike is different. The changing seasons paint the mountains in new colors, the weather creates a different mood, and every group of travelers brings fresh energy and excitement. Sometimes the valley is covered in mist, making the monastery appear as if it’s floating in the clouds. Other times, the sky is crystal clear, offering breathtaking views of Paro Valley.
As a guide, one of the greatest rewards is watching my guests catch their first glimpse of the monastery perched dramatically on the cliffside. Their smiles, silence, and expressions of wonder remind me why Tiger’s Nest is one of the world’s most extraordinary sacred sites.
The journey is about more than reaching the monastery. It’s about slowing down, listening to the sounds of the forest, breathing the fresh Himalayan air, spinning prayer wheels, and reflecting along the way. Every step carries a deeper meaning.
After 102 hikes, I have learned that Tiger’s Nest is not just a destination—it’s an experience that teaches patience, perseverance, and gratitude. No matter how many times I climb the trail, the monastery continues to inspire me with its beauty and spiritual presence.
