Tour Guide, Mexico City, Mexico

1. Decide how many days you have to visit Mexico.

  • Our country is very extensive, and depending on where you are travelling from, you might like to spend more days. For example, it is very common for European or South American travellers to stay at least 2 weeks in our country to have more chance to visit more sites, especially when you are doing a long flight to arrive in Mexico.

  • On the other hand, it is very common that closer visitors from the USA or Caribbean countries are more likely to spend a week or less than 10 days. Nevertheless, preferences are always different. Just imagine: there are 35 World Heritage Sites of Mexico that you have to know.

  • Circuitos por Mexico would recommend at least 10 days to visit either colonial cities or a mix of Mexico City with a combination of other destinies like Oaxaca, Chiapas or Merida with Cancún.

2. Decide in general what kind of attractions you are interested

Colonial Cities (some of them categorized as World Heritage), magical towns, Caribbean beaches, pacific beaches, archaeological sites from Aztecas, Mayas or others, museums, Mezcal or tequila distilleries, handcrafts houses or more, frankly speaking, many options might overwhelm you, though, we are here to assist you. Each city might have different options too. So it is important to validate what is offered in each city.

3. Decide which city you arrive in and which city you will leave.

Generally speaking, there are the following routes for people who would like to visit multiple cities on the trip, though each route can be extended or shorted as needed.

  1. Colonial Cities, you might start your visit from Mexico City to colonial cities such as Queretaro, San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Zacatecas, San Luis Potosí or Guadalajara, each of them have their unique attractions. You might need between 3 or 10 days to visit different cities on this route. If you prefer to visit Colonial Cities, it is highly recommended to arrive and depart from Mexico City.

  2. Mexican South. There you will find archaeological sites (Monte Alban, Mitla, Palenque, among others), colonial cities (Puebla, Oaxaca, San Cristobal de las Casas), you will find as well internationally awarded gastronomy at Puebla and Oaxaca; you will find too many distilleries from Mezcal and alcoholic beverages from different fruits. Depending on what you like, you might spend 3 to 7 days in these destinations. Since it is expected that international flights arrive in Mexico City, you must take another domestic flight to move to other cities like Oaxaca or Chiapas. The return can be scheduled from the visited city.

  3. Yucatan Peninsula, you will find amazing natural reserves here and yet colonial cities and Mayan archaeological sites or beautiful beaches in the Caribbean. There are many things to do here that you would like to spend weeks here exploring different sites. Colonial Cities such as Campeche, Merida, Izamal and Valladolid are the most visited region. Archaeological sites such as Chichén Itzá (recent world wonder), Uxmal, Kabah, Coba, Tulum are unmissable sites. Natural Reserves like Sian Kaan, Bacalar, Rio Lagartos, Holbox are just some instances of what you can enjoy. About beautiful beaches, you can enjoy a peaceful time at Holbox, Cancún, Riviera Maya, Cozumel, Isla Mujeres. To visit the Peninsula, it is recommended to arrive at Cancún Airport. From there, you can move to visit different sites on the Yucatán Peninsula. Though I have to say it is very common that people like to combine Mexico City with Peninsula, if that is the case, you might want to arrive in Mexico City and then take a domestic flight to Merida or Cancún.

4. About the budget

It is hard to have a common budget. Though, I would like to say what makes the big difference is the hotel category and the type of tours your take. Depending on the Hotel Category, you might spend 50 USD per might up to hundreds of USD dollars per night. Obviously, cheaper stays can be 3-star Hotels or AirBnB (even less than 50 USD per night). About the tours, depending if you are willing to travel with other tourists in a shared service, you might find tours from 20 USD per person up to 100 USD (depending on the activity you want to do); but if you prefer private services where a vehicle and guide is attending you, then you must consider 150 to 250 USD per person; of course, if you travel with a group of family or a group of friend, for sure, you will find very good prices like 40 or 50 USD per person in a group of 10 friends or family.

At Circuitos por Mexico, we are experts in tailoring itineraries at Mexico ideal for Family or Friends groups.
