Pakistan is a country with diversity in all aspects, including culture, landscape, and places. It is home to some very unique and revealing historical monuments from ancient times. Tahkht Bhai Buddhist Monastery is one of the world-famous heritage sites.

Visiting a historical place truly adds charm to experiencing the lifestyle of ancient people. Among ancient cultures, the most popular one is Buddhism, known for its unique way of living in places far from the common population of that time. Takht Bhai remains, situated at an altitude of 1,800 feet above sea level, are among the oldest discovered remnants of Buddha, dating back to the 2nd century BC to the 5th century AD. These remains are scattered over a vast area of 32.9 hectares and were first excavated in 1907. This site has also been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Takht Bhai remains include a variety of relics such as stupas, study rooms, worship places, rooms for monks, living quarters, working areas, covered and uncovered pathways, gathering places, and very small meditation rooms, etc. Each part of this site reflects its own narrative regarding various aspects of Buddha's life. Exploring this ancient sanctuary is both highly informative and appealing.

The site is situated next to the village Mazdoor Abad at the backside of Takht Bhai, a small town approximately 18 kilometers from Mardan City. This place can be reached from Islamabad City after a two-hour drive. Tourists returning from Swat City can also spend 2 to 3 hours at Takht Bhai, enjoying famous Chappali Kabab and exploring these relics of ancient times. From Takht Bhai, a mere 5 to 10-minute drive leads to this historically significant place.

This site can be visited throughout the year, but the ideal time is from September to April when the temperature is moderate or slightly cold. During the peak summer season, it is advisable to carry water bottles, wear hats, or use umbrellas to avoid direct heat from the sunshine. The site is situated at a slight elevation, accessible through stairs, and can be visited during daylight hours only.
