Discover a unique way to enjoy Jungfraujoch without crowds, even in July and August:
Take the last train up
Spend the night at Mönchsjoch Hut
Take the first train down the next morning
In fact, you’re often alone even on the second or third train down, because very few people stay for such a short visit. For a brief but unforgettable time, the plateau, the building, the terrace, and the lifts are all yours. Silence, ice, and light create an unforgettable alpine experience.
However, this adventure is not for everyone. Here’s what you need to know (hut link https://www.moenchsjoch.ch):
Important facts:
Shared dormitories only
Shared toilets, located outside (~3 meters from the hut)
No showers, even for the staff
Cooking is done only with boiled meltwater
Drinking water must be purchased in PET bottles; no tap water available
Very limited or no running water for personal hygiene (bring water from Jungfraujoch if needed)
From Jungfraujoch to the hut: ~2 km, 1 hour, 167 m elevation gain
At 3,650 m altitude, sleep may be difficult for most
The hike can be physically demanding due to high altitude
Critical Safety Warning:
Walking from Jungfraujoch to Mönchsjoch Hut when the hut is closed is extremely dangerous. The route crosses a glacier with crevasses and is only prepared, secured, and checked regularly when the hut is open. Snow bridges may be unstable or missing entirely, and hidden crevasses can be fatal. Attempting this walk when the route is not maintained puts your life at serious risk.
