The city of Taj Mahal, Agra is one of the most popular tourist destinations in India. It is located about 204 km south of Delhi in the Indian state of Utter Pradesh. Situated on the west bank of the river Yamuna, Agra is a beautiful city and it has many historical elements associated with the city. The TajMahal, Agra Fort, Fatehpur Sikri, and many other historical palaces and monuments. Agra is a city of tomb and memorials. Agra is known for its Taj Mahotsav. This cultural festival is held in the month of February every year and thousands of tourist come to it from all over the world. Taj Mahotsav brings traditional Indian music and dance on a single platform for tourist to enjoy.

The history of this beautiful city has a monument that holds memories date back to centuries ago. In fact, this city is as told as time can be, it was redesigned when the Mughal rule took in the 15th century. The Mughal ruler called Sultan Sikander Lodi is the main founder of the world-famous tourist attraction called Agra. This beautiful city was founded way back in the year 1504. Emperor Akbar built Agra Fort, while Jahangir beautified it with palaces and garden. Shahjahan marked the zenith of Mughal Architecture, by building the Taj, the unspeakably beautiful riverside mausoleum that is undoubtedly the biggest tourist attraction of Agra.

Taj Mahal

The most famous of the monument of Agra, Taj Mahal is one of the seven wonders of the world. Taj Mahal is the devotion and dedication of love. Taj Mahal is a monument built by Emperor Shah Jahan. In the memory of her wife Mumtaz Mahal, Taj Mahal is located on the bank of River Yamuna in Agra. Taj Mahal is completed in 1648. Taj Mahal expresses the magnificence of Mughal architecture. The Taj has done wonder to Agra tourism and the Taj is a must in each one of the Agra.

Agra Fort

Besides the Taj Mahal amongst the other famous monument of Agra, the Agra Fort. Agra Fort was built by Emperor Akbar, He was undoubtedly the greatest Mughal Emperor of India. The construction Agra Fort started in the 1565 and completed 1573 built with Redstone. Agra Fort is a mixture of the Islamic and Hindu style of architecture; Agra tourism would be incomplete without that monument. The top buildings to visit inside the fort are Sheesh Mahal, Diwan I Am (hall of public audience), Diwan I Khas (hall of private audiences), Anguri Bagh, Khas Mahal, Mina Masjid, Nagina Masjid, Musamman Burj. Today, the fort is a major tourist spot and attracts many tourists from all over the world.

ITMAD-UD- DAULAH Tomb

It is a tomb built with white marble in the typical Islamic style architecture. It was built by the Mughal Emperor Noor Jahan in the memory of her Father Itmad-Ud-Daulah. This monument is located her left bank of Yamuna River. It happens to be one of the must-visit Monument of Agra.

Mehtab Bagh

Mehtab Bagh is constructed just opposite Taj Mahal; Mehtab Bagh is a char bagh complex that is considered the ultimate viewing point of the magnificent marble mausoleum. The garden is open from sunrise to sunset and is considered a photographers haven because it is the point from where you can take some unique photographs of the Taj Mahal with a gorgeous backdrop.

Akbar Tomb

The tomb of the great Mughal Emperor Akbar is worth visiting. Akbar’s tomb is a mixture of many architectural styles and completely different from earlier Mughal building. A visit to this monument of Agra is essential to make your Agra tour complete as it generally a part of Agra This building was built in 1604–1613 and is situated in 119 acres of ground in Sikandra. It was built by great Mughal Emperor.

Fatehpur Sikri

Fatehpur Sikri is near Agra and one was the capital of Mughal Emperor Akbar. Fatehpur Sikri Fort is listed among the World Heritage Sites. This city was found as the capital of Mughal Empire in 1571 by Emperor Akbar. The architecture of the city was designed by Dhruv Chawla and Tuhir Das Akbar founded the city after winning Chittor and Ranthambore. Fatehpur Sikri houses many tourist places like Buland Darwaza, Diwan-I-Khas, Jodha Bai Palace(Marium-Uz-Zamani Palace), Tomb of Sheikh Salim Chisti, Jama Masjid, Panch Mahal and many others. The palace of Jodha Bai or the Rajput queen of Emperor Akbar is one of the most charming palaces. This palace is located on the eastern side entirety of the fort and the Buland Darwaza is the most famous palace in Fatehpur Sikri. Buland Darwaza is a storied high gateway that guards the northeastern entrance of the city in Fatehpur Sikri. Buland Darwaza is counted as one of the tallest gateways in the world is almost entirely made out of the Redstone.


Best Time to Visit

Agra has dry summer mild winter, and moderate monsoons. It also has the best time to visit Agra would be in the transition between summer and winter. Generally, the month between October and March are considered as the tourist season with an average temperature of around 10 to 12 degree Celsius. The heat of summer will have cooled off, and winter will be just around the corner, by mid-October. You can also visit Agra during the monsoon season, between August and October. The vision of a rain Taj Mahal is indeed a sight to behold.


How to Reach Agra

By Flight

Agra is well connected with all the major cities in India like Delhi, Lucknow, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Chennai, and Cochin. The main airline company connect these cities to Agra is Air India. There is no international airport in Agra, so tourist travelling to this city from abroad are advised to head any of the major cities in India like Delhi or Mumbai and catch a flight to Agra from there.

Nearest Airport

Agra Airport or Kheria Air Force station is only 13 km away from Taj Mahal and is a part of the military airbase at Agra.

By Train

Agra is easily accessible from all the major cities in the country, by train. There are many railway stations in Agra like the Agra Cantonment Railway Station, Agra Fort Railway Station, Agra City Railway Station, Idgah Railway Station, etc. Various train operates between Agra and cities like Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Chennai, etc.

By Bus

There are many national highways connecting Agra to other part of India. There is also an expressway that originates in the city. ISBT (Inter State Bus Terminal) and Idgah Bus Stand are two major bus terminal here. A few of the major bus operator connecting. Language of Agra

The official language of Agra is Hindi, the same as the national language of India but many of residents also speak Punjabi and Urdu. A few of them also speak Brijbhasa.
