3 Days Yirgacheffe coffee tour
Day 1: Arrival in Hawassa & Transfer to Yirga Chefe
Early morning flight from Addis Ababa to Hawassa, departing at 7:45 AM and arriving at 8:40 AM. Upon arrival at Hawassa Airport, your regional manager will greet you for a warm welcome and private transfer. Drive approximately 118 km (about 1.5–2 hours)southeast through scenic Sidama landscapes to Yirga Chefe(also spelled Yirgacheffe or Yergachefe), a small town in the Gedeo Zone renowned worldwide as one of the premier origins for specialty Arabica coffee. Situated at elevations of 1,700–2,200 meters, this highland area boasts ideal conditions for heirloom coffee varieties—resulting in beans celebrated for their bright acidity, floral aromas (jasmine, tea-like notes), and fruity flavors (citrus, berry, lemon zest). Often called the "birthplace of coffee" within Ethiopia (the true origin of Arabica), Yirga Chefe's cooperatives and smallholder farms produce some of the finest washed and natural-processed coffees globally. Upon arrival, settle in and enjoy free time to explore the charming town or relax. Overnight stay in a comfortable hotel in Yirga Chefe.

Day 2: Authentic Coffee Experience & Return to Hawassa
Morning visit to a local coffee farmin the Yirga Chefe area, where you'll walk among the shade-grown heirloom Arabica plants, learn about sustainable farming practices, and witness the full journey from cherry to bean. Immerse yourself in a traditional authentic Ethiopian coffee ceremony, a profound cultural ritual performed by local women, symbolizing hospitality, community, and respect. The multi-hour experience includes: roasting fresh green beans over an open flame (filling the air with intoxicating aromas), grinding them in a mortar and pestle, brewing in a jebena (traditional clay pot), and serving three rounds of strong, aromatic coffee (the first bold, the second milder, the third sweetest). Paired with traditional snacks like popcorn or bread, this ceremony offers a genuine taste of Ethiopian daily life and heritage. Afterward, drive back to Hawassa (approx. 2 hours). In the evening, visit the beautiful Lake Hawassa(also known as Awasa or Fikir Haik / "Love Lake"), a stunning freshwater endorheic lake in the Great Rift Valley. Covering about 129 km² with a maximum depth of around 10–22 meters, it's home to a large population of hippos, abundant birdlife (including marabou storks and migratory species), and thriving Nile tilapia fisheries. Enjoy a relaxing lakeside stroll, boat ride (if available), or sunset views amid the caldera scenery, perfect for unwinding and photography.

Overnight stay in a hotel in Hawassa.

Day 3: Hawassa Highlights & Departure
Early morning visit to the lively Hawassa Fish Market(locally called "Amora Gedel"), one of Ethiopia's most vibrant spots. Watch fishermen bring in fresh catches from the lake, see the bustling trade of tilapia and other species, and observe locals preparing fried or raw fish breakfasts. The market is especially energetic on weekends, with fearless marabou storks joining the scene—offering excellent cultural immersion and photo opportunities. Afterward, enjoy free time in Hawassa for shopping, relaxation, or additional lakeside exploration before your transfer to the airport. Evening flight back to Addis Ababa, departing at 8:40 PM and arriving at 3:35 PM (note: flight times may vary; confirm with current schedules).
