4-day Lares Trek From Cusco

Description

The Lares trail is located east of Cusco. This trek follows a path through deep green valleys, towering mountain passes, small rural villages, chilly snow caps and communities herding farmers whose way of life has essentially not changed since hundreds of years ago. 

Itinerary
  • Day 1: Cusco - Quishuarani (Lares) - Cuncani - Yanacochaexpand_more
    • Pick you up to go to Calca at the Sacred Valley. 
    • Continue going to Quishuarani (3,700 m), and from this point, hike through lovely Andean towns, with beautiful alpacas and llamas around. 
    • Arrive at Queuña Cocha Lake, a place with fantastic mountain views, and eat lunch.
    • Walk downhill to Cuncani Community to ascend to Qolqecasa for 2 hours.
    • Hike around beautiful lakes and waterfalls to reach Yanacocha to spend the night at the campsite. 

    Overnight stay at Yanacocha.

    Distance travelled: 14 Km – Approximate time of walk: 6 to 7 hours.

  • Day 2: Yanacocha- Wakawasi- Mantanayexpand_more
    • Eat a warm breakfast and go to Chaqchapata, a fantastic place with traditional people with Andean customs and llamas and alpacas all over around. 
    • Climb around 1:30 hours to the lunch spot called “Hierba Esponjosa”. 
    • Continue to go up for 1:30 hours to the highest point, Auroracasa.
    • Enjoy and admire the incredible landscapes.
    • Hike for two hours and reach the campsite.

    Overnight stay at Queuña.

    Distance travelled: 16 Km – Approximate time of walk: 7 to 8 hours.

  • Day 3: Mantanay - Yanahuara - Aguas Calientesexpand_more
    • Have breakfast and depart at 7:30 am to go downhill around incredible mountains, with amazing Maras and Moray Salt Mines' amazing views. 
    • See crops in corn, potatoes and vegetable. 
    • Reach the picturesque town of Yanahuara.
    • Eat delicious lunch and go to Ollantaytambo train station.
    • Board the train for two hours to Aguas Calientes. 
    • Arrival and transfer on your own.
  • Day 4: Aguas Calientes- Machu Picchu- Ollantaytamboexpand_more
    • Take the tourist bus to the citadel entrance, and visit Machu Picchu.
    • Enjoy the sunrise and go to Intiwatana, located on the top of Machu Picchu. 
    • Climb the Huayna Picchu mountain (optional). 
    • Take the bus back to Aguas Calientes. 
    • Have lunch in any good restaurants or relax waiting for the train and transport back to Ollantaytambo.
    • Return to your accommodation centrally located in Cusco city.
