Description

Everest region is already world-renowned with the scenic views of mountains and unique culture. Among the various trails in the region, Everest Trek with Gokyo Ri provides a stunning perspective of the Khumbu region. The trek heads to the beautiful Gokyo Lakes through Sherpa villages like Namche and Machhermo.
The trip takes 13 days to complete and starts at Kathmandu. Firstly, you head to Lukla on a flight and start to trek. The trekking trail heads north towards Phakding and enters the Sagarmatha National Park. You head towards Namche Bazaar and continue to Phungi Thanga. The trail deviated from the classic Everest Base Camp trail and continues north all the way to Gokyo village. Then, you spend a day at the village and hike to the top of the Gokyo Ri (5360m). Here, you can relish the views of the mountains like Cho Oyu (8201m), Mt. Everest (8848m), and other peaks in the Mahalangur range. Likewise, you can also explore the Gokyo lakes and Ngozumpa Glacier.

    Day 13 :

     Day 01: Arrival at Kathmandu Airport.

    Your arrival in Kathmandu will be marked by landing at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA). A company representative of Himalayan Adventure Treks & Tours will receive you and transfer you to your hotel. Evening you can meet the participants and the trek members. Overnight stay at a hotel in Kathmandu.

    Day 02: Fly from Kathmandu to Lukla and Trek to Phakding (2610m) 3-4 hours. (B/L/D)

    After you have your breakfast, you will drive to the airport to embark for Lukla. The breathtaking views of mountains and rivers will make the approximately 40 minutes’ flight remarkable before landing on Tenzing-Hillary airport, named after the pioneer invaders of the Everest. After necessary arrangements/rearrangements, you will start heading towards Phakding which is reached at about 3-4 hours of moderate walking.

    Day 03: Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3446m) 6-7 hours. (B/L/D)

    Following a trail through pine forest and crossing few suspension bridges, you will arrive at a small settlement called Benkar which is the gateway to Sagarmatha National Park. After necessary formalities, you will continue towards Namche Bazaar, the major market of the Everest region, which teems with shops and hotels of diverse standards.

    Day 04: Acclimatization Day Visit Khumjung Village, Hotel Everest View (3880m). (B/L/D)

    Today is acclimatization day in Namche so, that your body can be acclimatized according to high elevation. It is also the preparation day before purse to further high elevation. we will go for a hike to Hotel Everest view where you can view the panoramic scenes of the Khumbu region. On the way to Everest view hotel, you can explore the local community and their lifestyle.

    Day 05: Trek from Namche Bazaar to Phungi Thanga (3246m) 5-6 hours. (B/L/D)

    Today, the trail climbs steeply out of the valley through rhododendron forest, juniper and large conifers start to appear as the elevation increases making trekking beautiful in spring. The trail passes through Yak Kharkas and summer settlements. The views of Ama Dablam, Khumbi La, and Tawache are magnificent throughout the day. Overnight at guesthouse.

    Day 06: Trek from Phungi Thanga to Dhole (4110m) 5-6 hours. (B/L/D)

    The morning after breakfast at Phungi Thanga we continue our trek to Dhole by the same route to Base camp. You will get a chance to see panoramic views of various mountains, rhododendron and birch forest with hanging mosses and lichens.

    Day 07: Trek from Dhole to Machermo (4465m) 5-6 hours. (B/L/D)

    After a walk in wonderful landscapes, you arrive above Machermo which is a small settlement in a wide side valley. Machermo is also known for the home of a rescue post. You will see the native birdlife and marvel at the mountain flowers, enjoying views of Cho Oyu to the North.

    Day 08: Trek from Machermo to Gokyo (4790m) 5-6 hours. (B/L/D)

    Machermo peak (6237 m) climbing is challenging trekking peaks located in the Everest region, on the way to Gokyo lake which is open for climbing under Nepal Mountaineering Association(NMA). Gokyo lakes are populated with its amazing high altitude ducks. Before Gokyo, there is a chautara ( resting place) covered with prayer flags and Gokyo village can be seen from here.

    Day 09: Sunrise excursion to Gokyo Ri (5333m) to Machermo Base Camp (4465) 6-7 hours. B/L/D)

    You will start your day early by climbing up to the top of Gokyo Ri which have stunning views of the upper Gokyo Valley, The massive Ngozumpa glacier and panoramic view of the Khumbu Himalayas like a view of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Makalu, Cho-Oyu and many more. After wonderful views in Gokyo, our trek finally descend down to Machermo Base camp.

    Day 10: Trek from Machermo Base camp to Namche Bazaar (3440m) 6-7 hours. (B/L/D)

    The Morning after breakfast at Machermo Base Camp we walk down about 6-7 hours to reach the Namche Bazaar, you can enjoy a glimpse of the Everest region and its surrounding.  you can also get a chance to explore the Sherpa culture throughout the trail.

    Day 11: Trek from Namche Bazaar to Lukla (2860m) 7-8 hours. (B/L/D)

    This day trekking trail follows a sandy path with the strenuous walk. The trail is full of picturesque views of the landscape and some mountain scenarios. You can explore Lukla Bazaar and shop local items there. You can celebrate your successful trekking there in Lukla with special brands of drinks. Evening time offers you to visit the surrounding area before we stay overnight in Lukla.

    Day 12: Flight from Lukla to Kathmandu. (B/D)

    On this day, you fly to Kathmandu in the morning. This short and scenic flight possibly makes you feel nostalgic because of the glimpses of snowy mountains through a private window of the plane. You will be transferred to the hotel where you either have leisure time or you may catch the last moments exploring the sights of Kathmandu.

    Shopping in the market is another best option. In the evening, we have a farewell dinner at an authentic Nepalese restaurant with cultural performance.

    Day 13: Departure to Airport. (B)

    A representative from Himalayan Adventure Treks and Tours will take you to the airport, approximately 3 hours before your scheduled flight. On your way home you'll have plenty of time to plan your next adventure in the wonderful country of Nepal.

What do I need to bring?

 Equipment List for Everest Gokyo Trek:

Everest Gokyo Trek is difficult trekking but however our long-year experience of operating Trekking to Nepal, We learn many things and would like to give some information to pack your equipment list for your Everest Gokyo Trek and we hope, this information will be helpful you so success your trip.

Luggage/Duffle bag:

You will require a duffel bag or a backpack for trekking (65- 75 L) max, and all our trekking stuff is kept in this duffle bag, and this will be carried by our porters. However, Himalayan Adventure also provides the duffle back if needed.

A day backpack:

You will need a day backpack and you will be carrying it every day by yourself and we recommend you it has to be at least 25L and you can carry important documents like Passport, credit card along with the need to carry a water bottle, snacks bar and clothing layers (hat, gloves, fleece, sunblock, poles, etc…).

Trekking/Hiking boots:

Everest Gokyo Trek is difficult to trek, and It is essential to have good trekking boots, and it should be waterproof (in case of snow, or rain) Make sure it should be fit on your feet and comfortable during walking. Also, recommend you bring the Crompton during the winter season in Nepal.

Sport sandals:

You need to have a pair of sports shoes or sandals to use while you are in camp or tea houses after the trek.

Sneakers:

Everest Gokyo Trek is a relatively difficult trekking so sneakers are not suitable for this trek so you can leave your sneakers in Kathmandu hotel until you get back.

Sleeping Bag:

You need to have a lightweight sleeping bag that works for the minus 15 degrees for the summer season but during the winter we recommend minus 20 degrees for the Everest Gokyo Trek. Himalayan Adventure can provide it if you need one but has to be returned after the trek.

Fleece jacket: 

You need to have good quality fleece jacket at least 1 synthetic jacket or pullovers are a great alternative to fleece because they are lighter and more compressible and gives you enough warmth during the trekking.

Down jacket:

Down jacket is compulsory and recommends you to bring the warm enough so can keep you warm during the Everest Gokyo Trek.

Socks:

You need to have at least 4 pairs of thick socks during the spring & autumn but winter and monsoon need at list 5 pairs of socks for the Everest Gokyo Trek.

Lightweight/ warm insulated pants:

You need to have at least 2 pairs of lightweight trekking pants like Lightweight expedition thermal bottoms, Nylon hiking shorts, Softshell and hardshell trekking pants, Water/windproof trousers, and Casual pants so we can use as the weather.

Short-sleeved shirts:

You need to have 3 ice-breaker merino wool to keep you warm from the cold or synthetic shirts and if you are not allergic to wool products, merino wool is the ideal for Everest Gokyo Trek.

Long-sleeved shirts: 

You need to have at least three shirts.

Underwear:

You need to have few pairs of underwear and this can be as much as you need as there are no washing facilities every day on Everest Gokyo Trek so, we highly recommend you to have enough pair of underwear.

Waterproof jacket: 

You need at least one waterproof jacket for the rain/snow and wind for the Everest Gokyo Trek and waterproof pants may be on option.

Head and face gear:

Sun Hat or cap during the day time, Woolen Hat for morning & Evening and Polarized sunglasses are compulsory.

Hand gear:

You need warm gloves.

Traveling supplies:

Adapter Plug for Charging the Camera and Mobile, Camera belt, Passport belt ( nice to have), Swiss army knife (option), Flashlight, Headlamp, Water bottle, Extra camera battery, Hand sanitizer, Alarm clock, Hiking poles (optional ) and Binoculars (optional).

Toiletries:

Razor, razor blades, shaving cream, aftershave toothbrush, toothpaste, dental floss, sunscreen, toilet paper, small towel, and period pads (for women).

Medication:

First Aid Medical Kit box (can be purchased in Thamel Kathmandu), Altitude Medicines (Diamox), Tylenol, aspirin, ibuprofen, Anti-diarrheic, Powerful antibiotics, and Nasal Spray or Drops.
