Although destroyed many times over the course of its history, Gdansk in Poland has been faithfully restored each time, making a visit to modern-day Gdansk like a trip back in time. Neither strictly Polish, nor German, Gdansk is a charming anomaly, ambiguous in its ethnic and cultural make-up.
