    • You will be picked up at your hotel in Vientiane at 9:00 am for morning sightseeing.
    • Visit Wat Sisaket, a Buddhist wat in Vientiane, the only temple left intact after the Siamese (Thai) invasion in 1828. It is one of the most beautiful temples in the capital, and its breezy teak covered hallways are filled with thousands of miniature Buddha statues
    • Continue on to the nearby Wat Phra Keo. Used as a religious museum, Wat Phra Keo displays a collection of both Lao and Khmer works of art.
    • Also nearby is the Presidential Palace. Although you are not allowed to visit inside, it is a good glimpse into the town’s colonial past as this building formerly served as the French governor’s palace.
    • Visit COPE, an association working to help landmine victims. A visit to the center provides in-depth information about the history of the American/Vietnam war and the lasting impact of unexploded ordinances (UXO) in the area and the efforts underway to clear them.
    • Continue to the Patuxay monument, Laos’ version of the Arc de Triomphe, where you can climb the stairs to the roof for sweeping panoramic views of the city.
    • See Pha That Luang is a gold-covered large Buddhist stupa in the center of the city of Vientiane. The holiest site in Laos constructed by King Setthethirat in the 16th century, the temple is resplendent as the sun is shining upon its towering golden spire.
    • End your tour of the capital along the banks of the Mekong River. Stroll along the river, stop to enjoy a cold drink or sample a snack from one of the many local food stalls. When the tour ends, you will be transferred back to your hotel.

My husband, sister, brother-in-law and I were excited about our Explore Trip to Laos, "Spirit of Laos" because we knew that it would be a trip of lifetime! We were met by Soun, our tour leader at the hotel in Bangkok with his warm Review welcoming smile, and we knew immediately we would be taken on an adventure to remember! Soun was an excellent guide in so many ways. He was very personable - day 1 - he shared his remarkable life story - which for us on tour made this trip so much more meaningful! His love of his country was genuine and travelling with someone who knew and understood the people and the land was so helpful. There were many long travel days with sparse accommodations at times, but Soun's sense of humour, strong organization skills and positive attitude kept the group going! Soun was not only an excellent guide, but a great person! His personal touch to get to know his tour group as well as his ability to share his own life experiences makes him top notch!!!!!! You won't be disappointed with Soun as your tour leader! Review by Mary

I was one of a group of 15 to travel around this beautiful and relaxing country on an Explore tour, expertly led by Soun. He delivered quite a challenging itinerary in a professional and highly organised way but he was much more than just a tour leader. He brought a fascinating personal angle to the trip and became a friendly and interesting companion- someone I would hope to keep in touch with. He was always keen to ensure we all got the most we could from our time in his country that he clearly loves- though he was not guilty of painting an over-rosy picture and we had some interesting discussions.

Soun was a great guide. He was enthusiatic about both his country and the people who visit it. He knew all the best things to do and see, plus the best places to eat. I highly recommend him!!!

Nothing was too much trouble for Soun, worked non-stop to make our trip a success and was informative and also great fun to be with.

Soun was a guide on an Explore tour I took to Laos. Our group was small but still challenging I thought for our guide. Such different, competing expectations and Soun was a master at keeping everyone happy. At every turn he was exceedingly helpful, charming and always prepared to make an extra effort to accommodate and facilitate. His local knowledge was excellent, making sure that when we had time each group member found things that interested them. His English was perfect and so it was possible to have fascinating conversations with him into the night over a beer or two allowing a much better appreciation of the country and the people. During group activities Soun judged the atmosphere of the group well, giving enough information about locations and cultural events such that we were informed but didn't feel we were on an academic tour but if we wanted more information he was ready to oblige. I would recommend Soun as a guide to anyone looking for a friendly, resourceful guide with knowledge and patience.
