In Coimbra, Jose picked us up and started the tour by taking us to a high point to see the city and frame the development and history of the city. From there, We went to an local open market. There he showed us the differences of the fruit, meat and fish. I've gone to many open markets. But this was truly different. I'm glad he took us there. After that, he did show us the university, the library and the main sights in the medieval part of the town. I was glad we had him, because is some areas the access was closed or the lines were long. He knows how to get in and bypass all of that. He also helped us distinguish between what is authentic history and what is marketing for tourists. He took us to eat at a local restaurant and had a very authentic meal. He is fluent in English and Spanish. 

José. We miss you so much. Over the 6 days we spent together we formed a very special bond with you. You are a wonderful person both inside and out. You are beyond professional about your work but also make it very entertaining. We know so much about Portuguese and Spanish history now. I can't thank you enough for the love and care you showed towards Tom. Pals for life!
