My wife and I had a day trip from Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai. Ken was a great host, we enjoyed his company and guidance around the area.

We made 4 stops: Hot Springs, White Temple, Blue Temple and Karon Village. I was hoping for more flexibility given that this was a custom private tour, however we were unable to make any changes. We asked to stop at a trendy cafe in Chiang Rai but Ken said it was too far out of the way. It was quite disappointing when we passed right by it without stopping.

The Hot Springs were a short stop for a rest room break and coffee. Interesting enough but not much to see. Coffee was terrible. We didn't spend long.

White Temple was amazing, the highlight of our day. It was a good tour but felt rushed at times. We would have enjoyed more time here as it is quite a spectacular temple. Ken had some wonderful insight into the history of the temple and the artist who designed it.

Lunch was at a buffet restaurant at White Temple. Food was good and lots of variety but there was nothing unique or special about it. I was hoping for a hidden gem that only locals knew.

Blue Temple was also nice and was worth the visit.

The Karon Village was awful. Given a second chance, I would have skipped this completely. Nothing more than a human zoo and elaborate gift shop for overpriced souvenirs. There was no engagement with the people other than uncomfortably posing for some pictures. The conditions of the village were horrifying. I learned nothing about the tribes or the people. This is a hard pass in my book.

Overall it was a good tour but some changes would have made it spectacular.

Had a great 2 days with Ken in Chiang Rai. His arrangements for the itinerary, transport were impeccable.

He has a comprehensive knowledge of the relevant facts.
