Three years ago, I went to Nepal for a week long visit. As a graduate student from the University of Toronto conducting a global health study in neighbouring Bangladesh, I had little time to conduct a thorough review of the attractions in Nepal but went anyway. It was in Pokhara where I was introduced to Hem Raj Bastola as my tour guide for the area. Within a few minutes of speaking about the region and our backgrounds, I could tell he was a genuine and knowledgeable man. His ability to plan out the logistics and organize your day was phenomenal. Not only did he take you to a diversity of attractions within and around Pokhara, but he also knew the history and anecdotes that complemented each sight. He was also very personable and one could build a sense of rapport with him quickly as he took a genuine interest in what you had to share. Finally, as a university graduate student with very little travelling experience and money, Hem Raj was able to accommodate my situation without skipping on any of the breathtaking activities in Pokhara. I recommend Hem Raj Bastola as a guide to anyone (whether young or old, rich or a struggling student, new to travelling or an expert) because he will always put his utmost effort in making sure you enjoy your experience, while also making a life long friend as I have.
