Highly recommended tour guide of Siem Reap and Cambodia

Reviewed April 9, 2015

We spent 3 days with Vannak in Siem Reap, Cambodia in March. We had a tight schedule, so we opted for Vannak to pick us up from the airport and head straight to our first temple. Prior to meeting him, we arranged everything over email and he was very attentive and organized. Vannak was so flexible with the tour schedule. Our first full day, we woke up early and arrived at the main Angkor Wat temple to enjoy the sunrise. By 11am, we were tired and needed a break. Vannak knew of a local restaurant with hammocks outside, where we could relax and have lunch. This is just one example of why you should hire Vannak as your tour guide. As a native Cambodian and expert of Siem Reap, we didn't have to worry about anything. If we needed to go to the bathroom, he knew where they were located and how long it would take. We saw all the temples we wanted to see, learned history, and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Vannak is such a nice guy and we really enjoyed his company. I noticed that Vannak knew all the other tour guides, and he was always friendly with a giant smile. You're going to spend a lot of time with your tour guide, so I recommend Vannak for his personality and attention to his tour groups. The Angkor Wat area is HUGE and I encourage having an expert to guide you through the area.

A most excellent guide for all things Khmer

So I should start by saying that when I was looking for a Guide for Ankor Wat and some other temples in Cambodia, I chose a very highly rated guide on a certain website. I received a confirmation from this guide and thought all was fine. About 2 days before my confirmed tour, the guide cancelled. I later found out this is very common with guides in Siem Reap, if they get a booking with a larger amount of people even if they confirm with you first, they will cancel on you. So feeling frustrated, I chose another guide. This was Pin Vannak. After meeting him, he told me he always honors a booking once confirmed. Well, I could not have found a better guide. Besides being very reliable, the are other things I like very much about Mr Vannak. 1: His English is excellent. 2: He is punctual, He was always at my hotel 15 minutes before pick up time. I hired him 4 different times and he was always early and never late. 3: He is very flexible, during our 2 day tour, I decided I wanted to visit the Landmine Museum and it was not a problem at all, he is very easy going. 4: His knowledge about all of the temples is extraordinary, but not limited to the temples, you can talk to Mr Vannak about the glorious and tragic history of Cambodia. I also had very interesting conversations with him about politics, food, and the culture of this great country. If you hire Mr Pin Vannak, trust me, you will be in good hands, he will take care of you. Just a note, i Have returned to Siem Reap 2 more times for more reasons than one, and I always meet Mr Vannak, he has helped me with so many different things, he is not just a fixer, I also consider him a good friend. I have not been there in 6 months and he still keeps in touch.
