I might be at my third Normandy tour by now and I have to say that you might have two or three options to do a Normandy tour. My first was a “follow the cattle” tour in a big bus from Paris back in 2006; the tour guides on that kind of excursions have knowledge on 12 or 15 other sort of excursions including Loire valley castles, Paris by day (and by night), Mont St Michel and so on. Another one done in a minivan, with a different program, on two days in 2010, and a three days tour with Pegasus tour this year. Note that during the 2017 tour, I notice that another new kind of “Tour of the battle fields” is now available in minivan with people staying inside it, listening to a pre recorded mp3 and getting out of the transport 4 or 5 times a day... Back to Pegasus tour: I was very surprised by the very high level of knowledge that Gary, our guide, has about the whole D-day battle, not only on the beaches but on the whole battle from the beaches right up to Germany. He’s the only one I know to provide an ABUNDANT documentation of supersized black and white pictures, spy planes pictures, German pictures, maps... He knows the positions of artillery pieces, he studied the strategies and you CANNOT corner him with questions, even sharp ones. He knows what happened in small villages of the back country and tons of little anecdotes that happened during-Day. He is a MINE of knowledge because he only does Normandy D day tours. He lectures in universities, he interviews veterans, and has released a book: “Mettle and pastures”. That I bought during the tour.

You might think that he’s a bit expensive but I think that when the tour is finished you have your money worse, comparing with the tours I had in the past, I feel a bit screwed up now, comparing to what I had with Pegasus tour: An absolute reference on the topic to my point of view. 5 star+
