It was our family’s great fortune to experience Kenya through Samuel! What a good-hearted soul he is! Samuel not only imparted a deep knowledge of the great parks and majestic animals that we encountered…but more importantly, he so generously and lovingly shared his heart and love for the people, culture and customs of this beautiful country. We fell in love instantly!

Samuel knows the land and animals extremely well and could give us tons of insight into everything we were seeing. He was also great about looking for opportunities to make our experience unique, whether that was veering from the convoy of other jeeps to get different views or suggesting interesting adventures to add to our itinerary when time allowed. We noticed that even the other tour guides we encountered sought Samuel’s expertise. And Samuel’s timing is impeccable! There were many, many times that others would leave an area, but Samuel’s patience allowed us to see lions particularly close and even feed a rhino! He cared about how we made a connection with the people. In the Mara, he arranged for the kids in our group to help the Masai kids shepherd goats to their pens for the night—an experience our daughter will treasure forever!

It’s hard to believe you can make such a strong connection in a week’s time with a total stranger half a world away…but that’s exactly what happened. During the long safari drives, we got to know him as a family man…and somehow, he became part of our family! If we’re ever blessed to visit Kenya again, our first call will be to Samuel. For he is at the heart of our love for Africa.
