Katia Hayek was the tour guide of our group  for several days to different cities in Lebanon. The way she explained archeological sites and historical events was quite superficial and clearly one-sided.  In our group there were several scholars, historians and cultural anthropologists, and they were surprised to hear such shallow elucidations. When some of us asked questions, she seemed to be annoyed by it - this is at least what she said to the driver in Arabic language not knowing that some of us spoke Arabic! Her focus is only prehistory but with a shallow knowledge. She doesn't seem to know a lot about the medieval period or modern era. For example, she almost left out the  Ottoman period which lasted for several hundred years in the region.  Katia glorified the French occupation of Lebanon and when she took us to a fortress of the crusaders without critically commenting it,  this is when her undifferentiated approach reached the peak. When asked about the civil war, she just commented that "stupid people made stupid things".  We expected more insight. When asked about the current situation in neighbouring Syria , she complained that there were too many Syrian refugees in Lebanon who only "make problems and don't know anything".   To sum up, I cannot recommend Katia Hayek.
