After reading the reviews I can only reiterate the good things that have been said about Sonam's skills as a trusted and valuable guide. This April, 2014, my wife and I made our third trip to Bhutan to further explore a country and a culture that fascinate us. Sonam understood what we were looking for; he made the arrangements for us to travel east to a farming village in Trashigang, and visit Chorten Kora in Trashiyangtse. We stayed in a farmhouse and experienced a real taste of living Bhutanese culture, meeting the local people, eating food fresh from the garden and butter churned that very morning. With Sonam’s guidance, we became not just tourists or observers, but participants, even attending an important ritual by a Tibetan High Lama at the nearby monastery. In short, Sonam has the talent and knowledge to adjust to individual interests, and to bring about an engagement with the moment that creates wonderful memories. The trip exceeded expectations, and upon our return to Thimphu we made a more difficult request: could Sonam help us travel to Sikkim, and accompany us there as our guide? We were concerned because the turmoil associated with the elections in India had temporarily closed the border between Bhutan and West Bengal while we were in Bhutan. Within 24 hours Sonam had set up the trip, making it possible for us to obtain the Restricted Area Permit we needed to cross into Sikkim for seven days. Some of the accommodations were arranged as we traveled, but that resulted in an opportunity to spend a night at a beautiful monastery, see a gorgeous Himalayan sunrise, and discover a magnificent Buddhist site dedicated by the Dalai Lama only one year ago. Sonam's ability to accomplish this in an exceptional manner has deepened our bond & trust with him. He is a pleasure to be with; I would highly recommend him as a guide and companion.
