Itinerary – Porto Azulejos Walking Tour & Painting Workshop Morning – Azulejos Walking Tour (approx. 3 hours)
The experience begins in central Porto with a guided walking tour focused on the history and artistic value of Portuguese azulejos, one of the city’s most distinctive cultural symbols.
After a short introduction to the origins, techniques, and meanings of azulejos, we start exploring Porto’s historic center on foot. Possible highlights during the walking tour include:
São Bento Railway Station, home to one of the most iconic azulejo panels in Portugal, illustrating key moments of Portuguese history
Capela das Almas (Chapel of Souls), famous for its striking blue-and-white tiled façade
Igreja de Santo Ildefonso, featuring monumental azulejo panels overlooking Batalha Square
Porto Cathedral (Sé do Porto), where the cloister displays traditional azulejo scenes with religious and historical themes
Traditional tiled façades in the historic center, offering insight into everyday urban azulejo decoration
Throughout the walk, the guide explains the symbolism, artistic styles, and evolution of azulejos from the 15th century to modern times, with frequent stops for storytelling, observation, and photography.

Afternoon – Azulejo Painting Workshop (approx. 2–2.5 hours)
In the afternoon, the experience continues at a local artisan studio for a hands-on azulejo painting workshop.
Under the guidance of a professional ceramic artisan, participants will:
Learn about traditional azulejo patterns, colors, and inspiration
Be introduced to basic ceramic painting techniques
Design and paint their own azulejo tile
All materials are included, and no previous artistic experience is required.
Each guest will complete and keep their hand-painted azulejo as a unique, personal souvenir of Porto!
