Jasper likes to consider itself somewhat rough around the edges; a place where real people live and the traditional ways are still kept. It is a very special town, and the townsfolk deserve to be proud of its unpretentiousness. Peace is personified here, amidst some of the world’s most stunning wilderness, magnificent lakes and mountains.
One is spoiled for choice with all the outdoor activities – horseback riding, hiking, camping, mountain biking, canoeing, golf, cross country skiing, ice skating and snow shoeing without covering them all.
A Jasper tourist guide would insist on a trip to the Maligne Canyon Ice Walk. A summer walk is so totally different to that taken in winter; either way both are spectacular. Another must do is a trip on the Columbia Ice Field. Turquoise isn’t a colour until it has been seen at its ultimate –glacier blue! The Jasper Tramway takes visitors 2,277 meters up Whistler’s Mountain, where it’s as if one can see forever. For more endless spectacular views look up at the Jasper Dark Sky; the Jasper Dark Sky festival in October proudly presents billions of twinkling stars amidst the quiet and mystery of nights at Jasper National Park!
