8 Days Walking tour itinerary for Gaborone: Mingle With The Endearing Village Folk
Begin your tour by exploring the city for a day. Then, head to the rural area where every day you will be hosted by a different local. You will visit multiple villages through a hike in the savannah where you will meet with a village chief, visit a tribal monument, herd cattle and witness a traditional dance performance.
Arrival in Gaborone
Your Botswana tour guide will pick you from the airport and transfer you to your lodge.
Check-in and relax for the rest of the day by the pool.
After breakfast, head out to explore the city and visit the Gaborone National Museum, Parliament of Botswana and Three Chiefs Monument.
Go to a neighbourhood shop to have lunch and get a taste of freshly prepared local cuisine.
Go for an afternoon game drive at the Gaborone Game Reserve.
Return to your lodge.
After breakfast, transfer to the village of Ranaka.
Upon arrival, your hosts will welcome you and show you your accommodation.
After lunch, take a short walk with your local host to meet the village chief. Learn about the history and customs of the village during your interaction with the village chief.
Return with your host to your accommodation. Here, you can help your host prepare the dinner.
Have dinner around a campfire.
For those interesting in camping, a tent and pieces of equipment can be arranged on prior notice.
After breakfast, head out for the14 km walk from Ranaka to Seretologane. Begin the walk by you making your way up the gorge where you can catch glimpses of monkeys and rock rabbits. During the walk, you will take water breaks and your Botswana guide will share stories of important trees and birds that you will see during the hike.
Take a break and have lunch under a morula tree.
Arrive in Seretologane around 3 pm.
After some rest, you can help your host herd their goats and cattle inside a shed or get the fire started to cook dinner.
Take a hot water bath.
Have dinner around the campfire.
After breakfast, set out for the 10 km hike from Seretologane to the village of Manyana.
Take a short break to have lunch.
Walk along the Kolobeng river to reach the Dr David Livingstones trail, which will lead you to Manyana.
Upon arrival, meet your host and then have some rest.
Later, visit the Mma Sechele Monument to learn about the bushmen rock art painting.
Return with your host and have dinner.
Have breakfast and then go for the 7km hike from Manayana to Mankgodi.
Upon arrival, have some snacks and relax for the rest of the day.
Watch the enchanting traditional dance group performance.
Have dinner at your lodge.
Return to Gaborone
In the morning at a pre-arranged time, get on the bus to return to Gaborone.
Check-in to your lodge and relax for the rest of the day.
Arranged transport will take you to the airport, depending on your flight arrangements.
