Kumarakoram Bird Sanctuary is located in Kottayam District of Kerala and is spread over 14 acres. It was originally a rubber plantation developed by an Englishman along River Kavanar. Nearby is the placid Vembanad Lake ideal for a cruise. The sanctuary is home to both local and migratory birds. Thousands
of birds from the Himalayas and Siberia make it their temporary home. Siberian crane,cuckoo,moorhen,
egret,heron,darter and waterfowl are some of the birds that can be watched in the sanctuary.
There is a resort and an interpretation centre within the sanctuary for visitors.
